Gunners maintain winning streak

Yesterday his Gunners powered to yet another big win over the resurgent Wild Boys.
Goals from Moses Muchenje, in the 15th minute, and a penalty converted by Lloyd Masakusa, in the 85th minute, were enough to give the hosts a win.

Gunners were awarded the penalty after Ali Sadiki had been fouled by Tafadzwa Muzunze inside the box. Shooting Stars paid their way into the ground, with some saying it was meant to defy Gunners’ juju.

However, coach Tonderai Marume, dismissed all that.
“We were late having arrived just after 2pm and the marshals at the gate refused us entry and so we resorted to paying. We paid US$2 each for our eighteen member team but we will work to recover it.
“I do not believe in juju, we just wanted to get down to business,” Marume said.

The match marked the return of Gunners left winger Sadiki who had been on a long sabbatical following a serious knee injury last year.
For a player who has been away for such a long time, Sadiki did well in the 90 minutes he played with flashes of brilliance.
Chunga hailed his performance.

“He is our player and we have been assessing him. Since he had been requesting to play we gave him a chance and I am happy with the way he played, he applied himself very well,” he said.
Gunners took the lead in the 15th minute when Muchenje connected a volley after a cross from the right flank. Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper Prosper Chigumba failed to handle the stinger.
Muchenje’s stay on the pitch was later shortlived when he collided with Muchineripi Muneri and had to be rushed to hospital.

For Shooting Stars, Kelvin Mawire appeared to be a lone ranger initiating most of the moves but his team-mates could not come to the party.
His attempt at goal on 32nd minutes was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Willard Munyatera.

Muneri and James Chitereki earned yellow cards for rough play as frustration crept in.
The second half saw Shooting Stars, buoyed by substitutes, Eddie Mashiri and William Kupera, coming to life but the strikeforce remained blunt with most of the efforts being way off target.
Gunners also appeared happy to defend their goal. And when referee Ruzive Ruzive pointed to the spot, after Sadiki was fouled, Masakuse confidently converted to end the contest.
