GUNNERS coach Darlington Dodo expressed disappointment in his charges after they were held to a goalless draw by Blue Swallows at Gwanzura yesterday in a Northern Region Division One soccer league match.
After a good game more than a week ago against Ngezi Platinum when they became the first team to beat the log leaders, the former Premiership champions were hoping to continue with their good run.
But the game yesterday proved to be difficult for them as they dropped two crucial points that could have seen them closing the gap on Ngezi who are leading the pack.
Both teams lacked urgency and the zeal with a few scoring chances being created during the match.
Dodo felt they could have done better had his players applied themselves well during yesterday’s game.
“I think we did not play well to be honest and I think that break that we got over the weekend affected us a bit because I don’t know if it was complacency or what. I don’t understand but we did not start well, we didn’t do it well.
“But in training we were pushing very hard, they (the players) were doing really well and I thought the gear is up there. But I am surprised with how we started. It was actually bad from the start because if you don’t start well, to try and pick up is difficult because maybe the opponents take advantage of that then they start enjoying more possession than you.
“And it becomes very difficult because you see in the second half we tried to come back but we were not there. We were losing the ball unnecessarily and made a lot of unforced errors, it’s not typical of us,” said Dodo.
Gunners remain second on the log table with 43 points and are 15 points behind Ngezi Platinum.
While the Gunners coach was left ruing the two points dropped yesterday, his counterpart Perkins “Yellow” Nyamutamba was contend with the point they got and said they did well.
In another match played yesterday, Blue Jets beat Zatex 2-1 at Rimuka in a bottom of the table clash.
Jets got their goals from Philip Chanimba and Calisto Maheya while Shawn Brighton scored for Zatex.
Zatex’s chances of surviving relegation are now very slim as they are languishing at the bottom of the table with 14 points from 25 games.
