THE Gunyana Prestigious Awards officially launching on the end of September have aligned with the spirit of Munhumutapa by celebrating character before titles, a platform designed to honor Zimbabweans who lead with empathy, justice, and service.
As Zimbabwe will mark Munhumutapa Day, a national public holiday celebrated annually on September 15 to coincide with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s birthday, the awards are set to honor the President, Cde Andrew Makahamadze and others as the center of black power and excellent.
Led by Andrew Makahamadze Foundation and Southerton Constituency Community Development Trust (SCCDT), the awards will symbolise new beginnings, harvest, and giving back, reinforcing the national ethos that true leadership is measured by how society treats its most vulnerable.
Speaking to Zimpapers, Gunyana Prestigious Awards founder Cde Makahamadze emphasised that the awards reflect his personal values and the mission of his foundation, which focuses on disability empowerment, community dignity, and ethical leadership.
“I am Andrew Makahamadze and proudly, it is not bragging if you can back it up, my nname means a real man, and I am proud of the weight it carries.
“I am proud of my totem, the eagle, an eagle does not run from storms but it charges toward them and soars higher. I am not afraid of challenges because that is what builds me,”he said.
He emphasised that fairness and justice are central to his vision, drawing from his lifelong stance against bullying and suppression.
“A Libra represents the judge, I believe in fairness and I am anti‑bullying, I do not like people who look down on others or use power to suppress them. Even back in school, I stood up for what was right,”he said.
“Let us work, build and honour those who are building Zimbabwe with heart.”
Cde Andrew Makahamadze said Gunyana Prestigious Awards are designed to honor President Mnangagwa during his birthday month.
He reflected on shared values of Vision 2030 and celebrating September‑born leaders who uplift communities.
“The President is the center of excellence and the reason why I feel the need to honor him during his birthday month, which is my birthday month as well.
“We continue to follow his footsteps and build brick by brick and continue to acknowledge ourselves as drivers of Vision 2030 of leave no place and no one behind, so people born in September doing great in communities will be honoured accordingly.”
