ZAOGA Forward in Faith national leader Archbishop Dr Joseph Guti has called on Christians to pray for the Government and its leaders.
He was speaking during the church’s Legacy National Big Sunday held at Glamis Stadium in Harare yesterday.
The gathering also provided an opportunity to welcome Dr Guti and his wife, Nyasha, as the heirs to the church following the death of Professor Ezekiel Guti in 2023.
Thousands thronged the stadium to witness the national Big Sunday event.
“Every Christian must pray for their Government. Pray for Government leaders and do not just criticise them, but pray for them.
“Pray as ZAOGA. You are the salt of the nation. Whatever things are true, noble, just, pure and lovely, and whatever things are of good report, meditate on these things,” he said.
He said the late founder of the church, Archbishop Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti, left behind a peaceful church.
“Let us seek peace and holiness and let the peace of God rule,” he added.
Archbishop Guti dismissed claims that ZAOGA members worship the late Archbishop Guti.
He said members were merely walking in the footsteps of the late founder and did not worship him, as he was only a messenger of God.
He further said Baba Ezekiel Guti had shown the congregation the vision and pointed them in the right direction, which meant being true Christians who followed Christ.
“Baba Guti used to say he was just a messenger of God. We did not worship him and will never worship Baba Guti. He gave us Jesus; he pointed us to Jesus of Nazareth. We are disciples of Christ and followers of Baba Guti.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate. This church and this vision are not of man and will not perish; they are of God. Whatever God starts is permanent, and whatever God establishes is unstoppable,” added Dr Guti.
He challenged members of the church to be upright and prepared to be used by God.
“Be true ambassadors of Christ and followers of Baba Guti. We are not laying a new foundation but building on that strong foundation.
“The legacy will continue. There is nothing new to invent or originate; we are simply continuing with the legacy. Baba Guti is gone, but he left us a strong foundation in God,” he said.
He also said the church would endure.
“Even as we have been reminded over and over again that this church will not come to an end, this vision is not of man; it is a vision from God.”
Widow of the late founder, Dr Eunor Guti, said Dr Joseph Guti is the right leader to take over and should be supported.
“This vision is not of any human being, but of God, and we have proved that from the beginning until the time our legendary father went to rest,” she said.
