A Gutu man allegedly stoned his girlfriend and inflicted fatal injuries on her following a row over infidelity before hanging himself.
Shepherd Zivakwe (age unknown) was found by his juvenile son hanging on a wooden truss in his kitchen hut at Lonestar Farm, Chatsworth on Monday morning, a day after he had vanished after allegedly murdering his girlfriend Rachel Mudonzvo (32).
Zivakwe, who was employed as a domestic worker at Lonestar allegedly struck Rachel with a stone three times behind the ear after accusing her of cheating on him.
Rachel sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised at Gutu Mission Hospital before her condition deteriorated leading to her referral to Masvingo General Hospital where she died on Sunday.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said a Gutu magistrates court waived a postmortem on Zivakwe after he committed suicide.
Last week, Zivakwe allegedly visited Rachel in Serima communal lands, Gutu where he took her and another friend for a beer drink at a local bar around 8 pm.
Upon arrival at the bar, the trio discovered the place had already been closed prompting them to return home. On their way home, an altercation ensued after Zivakwe accused Rachel of infidelity.
In a fit of rage, Zivakwe took a stone and struck his girlfriend thrice behind the ear.
Rachel’s condition deteriorated leading to her hospitalisation until she died.
Police then initiated a manhunt for Zivakwe for allegedly murdering his girlfriend until his lifeless body was found in his kitchen.
