Guzha’s ‘Wedding Night’

Rooftop producer Daves Guzha will join hands with another film producer Joe Njagu for a film called “Wedding Night”.
The film is expected to hit the market by June with the producers saying preparations to start shooting are underway.
“Wedding Night”, an adaptation of Stephen Chifunyise’s highly-received play by the same name, is an exploration into the traditional way of marriage in Zimbabwe.

The producers said the film brings much appreciation into our local marriage procedures and ceremonies. Guzha said the complexity of understanding a traditional marriage and what it entails is the fate that is met with actors Farai and Chipo.

While friends and family persuade Farai to respect his traditional values and marry his lover in a traditional way, this idea is met with contempt from Chipo’s side but it proves to be the breakthrough and catalyst. Farai wants to gain respect and acknowledgement from his in-laws, especially from the father-in-law.

Guzha said they will produce a film that is of high standard and a product that Zimbabweans will be able to talk and relate to for years to come as the cast is composed of the best of both worlds in order to tell and express the conflict between the old and the new generations.

“This film explores how values sometimes clash and as always we try to give viewers the best,” said Guzha.
Njagu, who directed “Lobola” and “The Gentlemen” will be working with Guzha for the first time.

Rooftop’s film wing Creative Native has been taking successful plays from Theatre in the Park and adapting them into feature films as evidenced by the film versions of “Super Patriots and Morons”, “The Two Leaders I Know” and “Sinners”.
