The show is one of many that the veteran South African artiste has held in the city in the last few months but it is the first at Club Royal. He is also collaborating with Chase Skuza for the first time. The show also forms part of Gwala’s efforts to promote his album, Mama, which was released in September.
The album was released by Gwala in dedication to his mother as a way of apologising to her for his criminal activities as a young man. Gwala has a criminal history which has a strong influence on most of his songs.
In an interview, manager of the club, Tafadzwa Gandiwa said bringing the two artistes would further reinforce the club’s status as a venue of top notch live entertainment in the city. In the last few weeks the club has played host to artistes like Iyasa, Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria and Jah Prayzah. Last week’s performance by Jah Prayzah was also graced by Minister of Media, Information and Publicity Webster Shamu, who is the patron of Zimbabwe Music Association.
“The club aims to be the venue of choice when it comes to entertainment in the city and bringing Gwala, a music legend in the whole of Southern Africa, is part of that aim. For this show, he will be supported by Chase Skuza who is a big artiste in the country in his own right,” he said.
Gandiwa said the turnout at the shows was encouraging hence the decision by management to continue bringing in more musicians.
“We are happy with the numbers but we would like to see more people coming,” he said.
