THE pride of Gwanda’s photography community, Gwanda Magazine, was recognised this past Saturday for their work in the creative and cultural industry when they were named winners in the media and photography category at the Matabeleland South Agricultural Show.

The 65th edition of the Matabeleland South Agricultural Show got under way on Thursday. The theme of the occasion was “Sound value chain for transformation and economic prosperity.”

Position one went to Gwanda Magazine for their enormous effort at ensuring that artists from the mining town achieve success. The company has played a key role in providing beautiful backdrops for visuals and photo-shoots by local artistes. Billion Empire came in close second.

The company is made up of Bruce “Skollah” Sibanda (founder), Dumolwenkosi Dube, Eslee Ndlovu, Thembinkosi Ndlovu (trainee photographer) and Brian (photographer).

“I believe this success comes after all my hard work and that of the team I have worked and work with. I worked hard to get the skills and training needed for this thing. I got the credentials required to be beat the competition,” said Skollah.

He said their services have grown with time as they learn new things daily.

“Gwanda Magazine is a local magazine covering people in all stages of life from sectors of fashion, entertainment and business.

“Our services are having an online magazine, photography, live streaming, graphic designing, film making and podcasting.”

Having lifted the provincial capital town flag aloft, Skollah said they were overjoyed.

“I can say it feels good to win an award after your work and efforts pay off. I used to dream about days like these. When you reach the finish line of what you were trying so hard to achieve it’s amazing. I mean it’s an amazing feeling of happiness. However even if you don’t win, the journey is extremely important.”
