A BEER brawl turned deadly at Mpala Business Centre in Gwanda after a man fatally head-butted his drinking mate during a heated argument over unpaid booze.
Bright Ngulube (48) from Nhwali area appeared before Gwanda magistrate Progress Murandu, facing a murder charge after he allegedly launched a vicious attack on his neighbour, Bongani Ncube, leaving him with fatal head injuries.
Ngulube was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to August 9.
According to prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba, the ugly scene played out on 9 July 2025. Ngulube walked into the local bottle store and found Ncube and others already enjoying their drinks.
“Ncube complained that Ngulube was drinking their beer without contributing. He told him to put some money on the table,” said Shumba.
That confrontation apparently rubbed Ngulube the wrong way.
“A misunderstanding arose. In a fit of rage, Ngulube head-butted Ncube several times on the head,” said Shumba.
