Gwanda-Tshitaudze Constituency Member of Parliament Cde Fisani Moyo has donated food items and cash to Gwanda Prison in a bid to address some of the challenges faced by the institution.
Cde Moyo handed over to Officer in charge Gwanda Prison Superintendent Ishmael Madzimbamuto a total of US$1000, for procurement of a drum of thermal oil or cooking pot lubricant and for purchasing a cow for Inmates on Christmas Day. He further donated 100kgs of rice.
Gwanda mayor Alderman Thulani Moyo who also attended the event paid bail for some inmates who were struggling to raise the funds in a bid to ease congestion at the prison.

Cde Moyo said he saw it fit to bring cheer to inmates during the period of festivity.
“The purpose of the visit was to have an appreciation of challenges faced by inmates and how best they can be supported. Among the issues that were raised was the need for oil for cooking. I also saw it fit to donate rice and a cow to the prison so that the inmates can enjoy during the festive season.
“It’s important that as stakeholders we remember inmates who are housed in this prison so that we can bring cheer to them especially during this time of festivity. Supporting the inmates is crucial to the rehabilitative process,” he said.

Alderman Moyo said he saw it fit to pay bail for deserving inmates so that they could get a chance at justice.
