Gwanda youths register for housing stands

MORE than 1 000 youths in Gwanda have registered for the Government initiated housing stands programme which will be launched in the town before the end of the year in line with Zim Asset.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere had directed the Gwanda Municipality to avail land for allocating stands to the youths and the local authority has since identified the land.

Zanu-PF Gwanda Youth League commissar Cde Clement Zikhali on Friday confirmed that youths had come forward to register for the stands.

“We are very much happy about the housing project for the youths. It’s a national programme and Gwanda youths are set to benefit. We are very grateful to His Excellency President Robert Mugabe that finally he heard our pleas for accommodation.

By 2018, every youth must own a house,” said Cde Zikhali.

He urged the youths to take the opportunity seriously and work towards becoming landlords.

“Youths should register in numbers so that they benefit. It’s their project and they must feel proud to be part of it. We are very much grateful for the good gesture. It fulfills the Zim Asset economic blueprint objectives,” he said.

The Government has already facilitated similar programmes in Harare and Bulawayo. In Bulawayo, 900 hectares of land was identified for the project which will see more than 20 000 housing stands being availed in the city.
