GWERU City Council (GCC) has appointed Mr Joseph Zimusi (36) as the substantive Director of Housing and Community Services, making history as the youngest person to assume such a senior role at the local authority.
In a statement, GCC congratulated Mr Zimusi on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership.
“The public is kindly informed of this appointment, and we anticipate his dedication to enhance housing and community services in Gweru,” reads the statement signed by the acting Town Clerk, Mr Livingstone Churu.
GCC public relations officer, Ms Vimbai Chingwaramusee, said the local authority is making strides in filling key management posts to improve service delivery.
“We now have a substantive Director of Housing and Community Services, Mr Zimusi. We are also awaiting the appointments of the Town Clerk and the Chamber Secretary,” she said.
Mr Churu has served as acting town clerk for several years.
Ms Chingwaramusee said Mr Zimusi’s educational background and experience made him an ideal candidate for the role.
He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Great Zimbabwe University, a Master of Science in Human Resource Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Local Governance Studies from Midlands State University. He also possesses diplomas and certificates in Human Resource Management, Labour Law and Asset Management.
Before his appointment, Mr Zimusi held several key roles within the city’s Human Resources Department, including Human Resource Manager, Housing Superintendent, Human Resource Officer, and Personnel and Training Manager.
Mr Zimusi pledged his commitment to ushering in a new era of progress, collaboration, and community-focused leadership for the betterment of the city.
