None of the interim members who resuscitated the league in May last year managed to make it into the new executive and observers accused the Zifa Midlands executive of deliberately sidelining them.
The duo of Mangove and former interim secretary, Murwei Masaa, staunch critics of the Zifa structure’s leadership, lost under alleged dubious circumstances.
There were differences last year between the provincial football mother body and Gafa when the latter resumed without affiliating with Zifa Midlands as per requirement.
When Zifa Midlands demanded affiliation fees from the league four months after Gafa was revived, it coincided with the amateur football body’s acquisition of sponsorship.
This appeared not to go down well with Zifa Midlands whose Division Two league did not have a sponsor. Mangove’s candidature was dismissed as he did not have a national identity card and had two nominations instead of three, paving way for Lovemore Reketayi to assume the vice-chairmanship post unopposed.
The post of board member development position was the only post which was contested and pitted Masaa against eventual winner Lawrence Magutshwa.
Out of the 12 clubs which formed the electoral college five were disqualified since they had not yet paid affiliation fees leaving seven clubs to go to the ballot and Magutshwa narrowly won 4-3.
Other members who made it into the new executive are Moshedi Matavire who assumed the post of secretary while Phineas Phiri will keep the league’s purses. Asibu “Bond” Mususa comes in as a board member responsible for fixtures.
Matavire said they would work towards bringing vibrancy to the league.
Several players from yesteryear and the present era have come through Gafa with notables being the late William Sibanda and the duo of Dynamos defensive midfielder, Milton Makopa and Allen Gahadzikwa of FC Platinum.
Matavire said that they would stage an Africa Day tournament to feature all the clubs in the league.
