A NUMBER of home seekers in Gweru allegedly lost more than US$41000 to a local land development company, Greynut Investment, whose owner is now on police wanted list.

Police in Gweru confirmed the alleged fraudulent circumstances through which a number of home seekers were duped of various amounts of money amounting to a total of US$41 978 before the director of Greynut Investment disappeared.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said in a statement that sometime in February 2018, the victims paid various amounts ranging from US$485 to $7690 being instalments for residential stands from Greynut Investments Company which was jointly owned by Jameson Museke and Isaiah Mudzengi before the latter passed away in 2021.

Insp Mahoko said after a series of promises to offer the residential stands to beneficiaries since 2018, the home seekers grouped and approached the company where they were met with the unpleasant news that the company does not have stands for them. A report was made to the police and that forced Museke to run away and he has not been seen since then.

Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public who might have information about the whereabouts of Museke to report to the nearest police station.

“Police are appealing to those with information that may assist in locating and apprehension of Jameson Museke to pass it to Gweru Central Police or any nearest police station,” he said.
