Gweru man who raped sleeping woman jailed 15 years

A 42 year old man from Chief Gambiza area in Gweru has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a sleeping woman.

According to the national Prosecuting Authority (NPA) the accused appeared before a magistrate at the Gweru Magistrates’ court facing rape charges.

“On the 7th of June 2024 at about 2300 hours, the accused person gained entry into the complainant’s bedroom and found her asleep. She was naked. The complaint had her 2 year-old baby by her side. He removed his trousers and raped the complainant,” read an excerpt from the NPA.

It went on to state that the complainant woke up and found the accused person in the process of raping her.

“She lit a torch and identified the accused person. The accused person asked for forgiveness and pleaded with her not to reveal the matter to anyone, before he left.”

“The complainant’s husband arrived home around midnight and she revealed the matter to him. A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person.”
