H-Metro reporter wins award

H-Metro Reporter

H-Metro Reporter, Talent Gore, won the Most Promising Journalist Award for reporting on HIV/AIDS issues at the 2023 NAC Media Awards.

The awards recognised journalists and media houses for their accurate coverage of the HIV and AIDS story through print, electronic and online media.

The largest integrated media company in the country, Zimpapers, also received an award for its consistent and accurate reporting on the issue.

Gore called on fellow journalists to continue reporting on HIV/Aids issues until the pandemic is eradicated in Zimbabwe.

The National AIDS Council introduced the media awards to ensure that the HIV and AIDS story remains relevant in an environment of fatigue and competition for media space.

“I feel so honoured and would like to take this opportunity to urge my fellow journalists to continue writing the HIV/AIDS story as we continue to fight the pandemic,” she said.

“This award will always be a reminder that it’s not yet over until we can safely say Aids is no longer an issue in Zimbabwe and hopefully that can be achieved by 2030.”

She expressed gratitude to her H-Metro colleagues for always pushing her to achieve more in her reporting on health-related issues.

NAC chief executive Dr Bernard Madzima said:

“I am glad that following the introduction of these awards, coverage of HIV has increased and the depth has also improved, including paying attention to the linkages between HIV and related epidemics such as Covid-19, TB and other non-communicable diseases.”
