FOOTPRINTS sold out a habitual Plumtree housebreaker who was released from prison last month after he broke into his neighbour’s home and stole clothes and bed linen.

Siphakhathi Moyo (28) of Mkaya village under Chief Tshitshi was released from prison last month where he was serving a jail term for a similar offence.

He was yesterday convicted on his own plea of guilty to unlawful entry and theft by Plumtree resident magistrate Mr Taurai Manwere.

Moyo was sentenced to 16 months in prison and a suspended sentence of two months from his previous conviction was brought into effect. He is now serving an effective 18 month jail term.

Mr Manwere in sentencing noted that Moyo was an unrepentant offender.

Mr Elisha Mazorodze told the court that on November 1, Moyo went to the complainant, Mr Francis Ncube’s homestead.

He allegedly found no one at home and broke a window pane to the bedroom and gained entry before stealing clothes and bed linen.

He packed the loot into suitcases, jumped out of the house and disappeared.

Two days later, Ms Nobuhle Sibanda who was left to check on the homestead by the complainant discovered the offence.

She teamed up with another neighbour and tracked the footprints which led them to Moyo’s homestead.

On being questioned he denied any knowledge of the stolen property.

A police report was made and on interrogation, Moyo led police to the recovery of the stolen property and was arrested. — @richardmuponde
