Hammond throws in the towel

ANOTHER boxing chief, Ed Hammond, has thrown in the towel. His resignation, from the boxing board of control, comes just days after secretary-general Gilbert Munetsi also called it quits.

“It is with profound sadness that I hereby tender my resignation from the Boxing Board of Control,” Hammond said.

“This decision has not been taken lightly. I have been involved in boxing since 1952 and I have represented Zimbabwe as a fighter and as the national amateur coach.

“I echo a lot of Gilbert’s sentiments, the treatment of Charles Manyuchi is appalling and it is a very bitter pill to swallow.

“I do not feel comfortable sitting on the board of control when I am not able to assist Charles who has brought great honour to Zimbabwe and to boxing,” he said.
