Harare City Council adopts new Sports and Arts Committee

HARARE City Council has adopted a new Sports and Arts Committee to nurture and develop talent among the youth.

Speaking during the Sport and Arts Committee workshop, Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume said cities worldwide invest in sport and infrastructure development, adding that Harare will do the same.

He said sporting disciplines to be developed under the armpit of the Sport and Arts Committee include swimming, tennis, rugby, taekwondo, basketball and volleyball, among others.

Councillor Mafume said sport has the power to develop individuals into great people as evidenced by how the Minister of Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry and football legend, Norman Mapeza, have progressed.
