HARARE Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume says the UNFPA has given US$700 000 to the City of Harare, which was used to acquire drugs at Taririro Clinic.
Speaking at the Community Health Equity Fund (CHEF) scheme at Tariro Hopley Clinic today, Clr Mafume said the clinic had drug stocks of anti-retroviral drugs and other drugs.
“We want to give you community health. We will establish a maternity clinic.I hear 70 people visit the clinic per day,” he said.
“That is why Discovery ambulance has given us an intensive care ambulance for free with all the drugs. They will give us more ambulances in another programme we are having.”
Clr Mafume said there were also plans to build a theatre at the clinic to facilitate surgeries at the clinic.
He urged residents who joined the programme to encourage those who have not yet joined to do so and make it a success.
Cllr Mafume promised to increase the food coming to the clinic so that children get adequate food.
He said the council will continue with the programme until it spreads around the city.
“I ask you to pay a small amount, and as my contribution, I will pay for the first 10 people for the programme that will be chosen by community health workers,” said Cllr Mafume.
