Harare City Queens on top

HARARE City Queens have moved to the apex of the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League after they beat Zvishavane-based Platinum Queens 2-0 over the weekend.

With Herentals Queens not in action, Harare Queens took advantage of that situation to move up the ladder.

Harare City Queens are now three points ahead from highly fancied defending champions Herentals Queens.

It is a highly contested race and third placed Chapungu Queens hammered Chipempere Queens 5-1 in an away fixture.

Chapungu are three points ahead of Black Rhinos Queens and five behind log leaders Harare City Queens.

Correctional Queens played host to seventh-placed Black Mambas Queens and convincingly beat them 4-2.

There was no action from relegation-threatened sides. Bulawayo-based teams Queen Lozikeyi and Borrow Jets remain in the drop zone.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) Normalisation Committee has named Shadreck Mlauzi as the new Mighty Warriors coach.
Mlauzi, who was in charge of the country’s senior women’s national team at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, will be assisted by FC Platinum Queens’ Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda, Correctional Services’ Choice Dambudza and former Mighty Warriors assistant coach Yohanne Chikaola.

Former Mutare City coach Ndega Matsika is the goalkeepers coach, while Portia Chiota is the team manager.

The Mlauzi-led technical team will be in charge until June next year, concurrently with the Normalisation Committee’s tenure.

Mlauzi is part of the Bulawayo Chiefs technical department that is led by ex-Manica Diamonds coach Johanisi Nyumwa. They also have ex-Bosso and Warriors defender Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu as one of their assistant coaches.
