HARARE Deputy Mayor and Ward 7 (Mt Pleasant) Councillor Rosemary Muronda today joined residents and other stakeholders in observing the National Clean-Up Day at Ballantyne Shopping Centre and park.
In a statement, Cllr Muronda commended the strong turnout by residents and praised the commitment shown by City of Harare employees, who worked alongside the community to clean and beautify the area.
“I would like to encourage residents within each particular area to take full responsibility for their surroundings,” she said.
“Maintaining both the frontage and the back of our homes and businesses is key to building a clean, safe and healthy community.
“As waste is being collected regularly, let us therefore desist from the unnecessary creation of dumpsites and instead make use of proper waste disposal systems provided by the City of Harare in partnership with Geo Pomona.”
Clr Muronda urged residents to desist from littering.
“Beyond harming our environment, littering attracts penalties and fines. More importantly, it undermines our collective efforts to create a city we can all be proud of,” she said.
Clr Muronda said cleanliness should not be a one-day event.
“Let us make it a daily habit to keep our surroundings clean and safer for everyone. Together we can build a cleaner, greener and more resilient Ward 7,” she said.
