THE Harare Institute of Public Health (HIPH) Bulawayo campus has started accepting applications for its August 2025 intake, with classes scheduled to commence in the same month, on the 4th.

HIPH offers a diverse range of programs across multiple departments, including the School of Health Technology, School of Business, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and School of Community Health.

Prospective students can apply for various courses such as Pharmacy Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Accounting, Dispensary Assistant, Nursing Assistant and Public Health, among others.

As a premier centre for training healthcare professionals, HIPH is dedicated to advancing public health research and information dissemination. The institution’s mission focuses on developing a competent healthcare workforce that leverages science, technology and mathematics to provide heritage-based solutions for public health challenges in Africa and beyond.

In an interview, the institute’s principal Mr Amos Marume emphasised the institution’s commitment to public health advancement through manpower development, research and capacity building.

“We are actively promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in health sciences. Our goal is to develop skilled-based courses and vocational pathways to address gaps identified in public health during audits by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development,” he told Sunday News.

Mr Marume highlighted the importance of bridging workforce shortages in public health and expressed the institution’s aim to empower students nationwide with essential skills.

“To this end, HIPH is expanding its offerings to Bulawayo, providing opportunities in pharmacy assistance, nursing, veterinary assistance and disease surveillance—programs not previously available through TVET.”

He added that HIPH has developed innovative disease surveillance software capable of mapping and predicting health trends for up to ten years. The institution continues to enhance this system with data to make it more intelligent and effective.

Mr Marume noted that the institution has advanced its approach through modernisation and have integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its operations, facilitating discovery research and fostering collaborations with various partners.

“We are opening doors for many, who may have lost hope of furthering their education through our National Foundation Certificate (NFC). Unlike the National Certificate (NC), which requires O-level qualifications, the NFC provides an accessible pathway for individuals without formal qualifications to start their educational journey,” Mr Marume stated.

He emphasised the importance of creating inclusive opportunities for all Zimbabweans, noting that many graduates in nursing, pharmacy and other fields started their careers with the NFC.

HIPH is registered with the Higher Education Examination Council (Hexco) ensuring quality and recognition. The institution’s focus on health-related courses aims to open numerous opportunities, especially for students facing challenges in science education, enabling them to pursue advanced studies in the future.

Looking ahead, Mr Marume said HIPH plans to establish additional campuses in Mutare and Chinhoyi, complementing existing facilities in Harare and Gweru.
