Harare man in soup over firearm

A Harare man yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court for possessing a gun that was found hidden underground at a church shrine together with an army shirt that he was not supposed to have. 

Silas Mhembere was arrested by the police after they received information on Sunday that he was in possession of a pistol for which hed did not have a licence.

He appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi facing two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of army material. 

He was remanded in custody and is expected to apply for bail today. 

Prosecuting,Mr Zororai Nkomo alleged that detectives visited Mhembere’s house where he voluntarily led them to the recovery of a magnum revolver that he had buried underground at an apostolic church shrine near Timire Park suburb in Ruwa.

Mhembere, further led the detectives to his residence where 2X357mm live rounds and a 1X357 mm spent cartridge were recovered under his bed.

On the second count, Mhembere allegedly was found in possession of a camouflaged shirt in his house.
