A Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court has jailed 29-year-old Point Mudimba for an effective 21 years for raping and robbing a commercial sex worker aged 21 after luring her from a nightclub in September.
Regional magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa handed down the sentence after a full trial convicted Mudimba , who initially pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Prosecutor Chido Gohori, representing the State, said the incident occurred on September 1, 2025.
The court heard that Mudimba approached the complainant at Big Apple Night Club in the central business district in Harare and offered to pay her US$30 for a one night stand. He suggested they go to his home in Westgate.
After hiring a taxi, Mudimba instructed the driver to drop them off at a bus stop. He then led the complainant on a long walk into a secluded, open area where he ordered her to lie down. When she refused, Mudimba turned violent.
Mudimba strangled the woman, threatened to kill her and stabbed her slightly on the left hand with a silver knife. He then forced her to the ground and raped her six times.
Following the sexual assault, Mudimba tied the victim’s hands and legs to a nearby tree. He stole her cellphone and US$30 cash that was tucked behind the cellphone cover before fleeing the scene.
A passer-by later assisted the woman and helped her call her friend, taxi driver Mr Tafara Mugova. She reported the assault to Mr Mugova after he had picked her.
Mudimba was arrested on September 3 when he returned to Big Apple Night Club. The woman identified him as he was leaving with another woman.
She immediately alerted the night club’s security guards who apprehended him. Upon his arrest, a silver knife was found in his pocket.
Mr Mupeiwa sentenced Mudimba to nine years in prison for robbery and suspended two years and six months on condition of good behaviour for five years.
He suspended a further six months on condition he restitutes the complainant US$250 for the stolen cellphone and cash.
On the rape charges, Mudimba was slapped with 15 years in prison, leaving him to serve a total of 21 years effective.
