Harare man nabbed over dagga worth $50m

A 35-year-old Harare man has been arrested after he was caught in possession of 1 530kg of dagga worth $50 million.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department Drugs and Narcotics department on Saturday acted on a tip off and arrested the suspect, Collen Nyakarenga.

“The detectives purported to be potential buyers of dagga and lured the suspect to the Skyline toll gate along the Masvingo highway where he was apprehended after he produced a 90kg bag of dagga which was in a silver Toyota Granvia vehicle,” he said.

Detectives also recovered 16x90kg of dagga stored at the suspect’s residence at Brema farm in Beatrice.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, police in Dotito, Mt Darwin, Mashonaland Central province are investigating a case of murder which occurred at a house in Katsanza village, Chief Nembire, in which a body of a yet to be identified female juvenile believed to be aged around four years was found dumped in a pit toilet.

The incident happened on the 8th of December and police have requested for anyone with information to report to the nearest police station. — New Ziana
