A Harare man has successfully applied for a protection order against his former girlfriend, whom she accused of trying to destroy his marriage.
Harare Civil Court magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha granted the order after Mr Ian Jasi narrated how Ms Fiona Gwengwere has been interfering with his marriage and causing him emotional distress.
Mr Jasi told the court that he ended his relationship with Ms Gwengwere some months ago after realising it was no longer healthy.
“I am focusing on my family now. She calls me every time, even using a different number,” he said.
“She is threatening to cause more harm since she is jealous that I have moved on with my life and I am prospering.
Ms Gwengwere allegedly refused to accept the break up. According to Mr Jasi, Ms Gwengwere began to stalk him and even threatened to show up at his workplace and home uninvited.
He further claimed that Ms Gwengwere threatened to expose private information about their past relationship to his wife if he did not comply with her demands.
The court heard that Ms Gwengwere demanded financial support and gifts, and when he refused to accede to the demands, she vowed to destroy his marriage.
“She has been tormenting me and my family, she calls me, sends messages filled with lies and insults, and even tells me that I will never leave her,” he claimed.
“She has threatened to tell people things that will humiliate me and make my wife leave me. My home is no longer peaceful, and my marriage is on the rocks.”
Mr Jasi revealed that his wife has become deeply distressed by Ms Gwengwere’s constant interference.
He said he is now arguing with his wife because of the messages being sent by his ex-girlfriend.
He said he approached the courts because he simply wants to protect his family from further emotional harm and is only seeking to live peacefully without interference.
