HARARE Mayor Councillor Lovejoy Chitengu yesterday launched the Mayor’s Cheer Fund, asking stakeholders, corporates and individuals for donations.
Addressing journalists at Town House, Cllr Chitengu said the Mayor’s Cheer Fund office had a list of registered orphanages, old people’s homes and contacts of other people in need. Those who wanted to give a helping hand in cash and kind through the Mayor’s Cheer Fund are free to contact the Mayor’s office at Town House.
“Fellow residents we are beginning the festive season. Christmas time is when we celebrate with our families, relatives and friends.
“During this season, we gather, eat and cheer. However, as the Mayor of Harare, let me remind you all that some disadvantaged people in our society might not have time to celebrate with us due to a number of situations and circumstances.“The city has lovely children living in the streets, those living with disabilities and the less privileged, a number of the elderly who are living in homes dotted around the city and those in hospitals and prisons.
“We know that these people might not get the chance to enjoy the season and our intention as a city is to be with them and enjoy their company too,” he said.
“I hereby today call upon all stakeholders, institutions, corporates and individuals to remember those in need in our city and help them by giving some cheer during this festive season.
“There is more joy in giving and let us find joy by giving those in need in our city and a Merry Christmas to you all.”
