Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume, has commended Arnold Tinashe Chigwerewe, founder of Selekta Base Foundation, for his philanthropic efforts in Harare.

The foundation, widely recognised for organising high-energy car blowout festivals, donated food hampers to the underprivileged and elderly residents in Sunningdale on Monday.

Speaking at the event, Cllr Mafume lauded Mr Chigwerewe for bringing the foundation’s activities to Harare, creating jobs and contributing to the city’s entertainment scene.

He also addressed pressing issues affecting residents, including water and sewer challenges and poor road conditions.

“We are aware of these challenges and are working with the Government to implement solutions,” Cllr Mafume said.

Since its inception, the Selekta Base Foundation has made a name for itself through its blowout festivals, which combine car burnouts with live music, dance, and vibrant community gatherings.

Beyond the excitement, the festivals have created temporary employment opportunities for youth and small businesses, providing a boost to local commerce.

Mr Chigwerewe, the founder, has consistently used the foundation as a platform to give back to communities.

Through initiatives like the Sunningdale donation, the foundation channels proceeds from its festivals to support the elderly, the underprivileged families and local charities.

For many residents, the foundation represents more than just entertainment; it is a symbol of fun, opportunity and community upliftment.
