Harare Metropolitan Province recorded 614 Grade Seven learners who attained the highest pass grade of six units in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council public examinations, according to official figures released by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
Of the learners who achieved six units in the capital, 410 were girls while 204 were boys, reinforcing a trend where girls outperform boys — a pattern that has become increasingly consistent in recent years.
The statistics were released to schools by the Ministry’s Harare Provincial Education Office.
The provincial results come against the backdrop of a slight decline in the national Grade Seven pass rate, which fell to 48,49 percent in 2025 from 49,01 percent recorded in 2024, according to ZIMSEC.
The figures were compiled from schools across all districts in Harare Metropolitan Province that recorded at least one learner achieving six units.
These districts include Mbare/Hatfield, Glen View/Mufakose, High Glen, Northern Central, Epworth/Mabvuku/Tafara, Warren Park/Mabelreign, and Chitungwiza.
Harare Metropolitan Province has more than 1 000 registered primary schools, highlighting the level of competition among candidates who sat for the national examination.
David Livingstone Primary School in the Mbare/Hatfield district emerged as the top-performing school, recording 38 learners who attained six units, comprising 26 girls and 12 boys.
ZRP Support Unit Primary School in the Epworth/Mabvuku/Tafara district followed with 28 six-unit achievers, including 16 boys and 12 girls.
Royal Comfort Primary School in the Glen View/Mufakose district ranked third after producing 22 learners with six units, of whom 12 were girls and 10 were boys.
Simbaredenga Primary School in Highglen recorded 20 six-unit achievers, while ZRP Tomlinson Depot Primary School in the Northern Central district registered 19.
Southlea Primary School, also in Highglen, produced 18 learners with six units, while Nattie Primary School in Northern Central recorded 14.
Avondale Primary School in Northern Central had 12 learners attaining six units, with Farai Primary School in Chitungwiza and North Park Primary School in Northern Central each recording 11.
At the lower end of the spectrum, several schools recorded one learner each attaining six units. These include Chaminuka, Cornerstone, Dudzai, Mberi, Pfumo, Seke 8, and Tafadzwa primary schools in Chitungwiza, as well as Lewisam, Makomo, and Abbeys primary schools in the Epworth/Mabvuku/Tafara district.
Commenting on the results, Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Director Mr Patrick Zambuko said the overall performance was a reflection of the commitment and dedication of teachers.
“This performance did not come by chance. It is a clear reflection of the hard work, commitment, and resilience demonstrated by our teachers, who continued to put in extra effort despite various challenges,” said Mr Zambuko.
He noted that the trend of girls outperforming boys in national examinations has become firmly established.
“Girls have been outperforming boys for some time now, and this is no longer a surprise. It has become a natural and established phenomenon within our education system,” he said.
Mr Zambuko added that the Ministry remains focused on supporting all learners to reach their full potential.
“As a Ministry, we remain committed to providing the necessary support, resources, and supervision to ensure that both boys and girls perform to their full potential,” he said.
