A self-employed woman from Mandara, Harare, has appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of facilitating prostitution.

According to a statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Friday, between June and August 2025, Tanaka Mushambi (23) converted a property at 817 Grosvenor Road, Highlands, into a brothel under the guise of a massage parlour.

The court heard that the premises became a hub where female sex workers were hired to engage male clients for payments or reward.

“The matter came to light on August 19 2025, after a juvenile reportedly engaged one of the women operating at the premises through an online platform,” the NPA said.

“The encounter, which involved payment in the form of groceries, was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the women involved, whose trial is pending at the court,” said the NPA.

The accused was subsequently arrested for facilitating prostitution and was denied bail as investigations continue.
