CHICKEN Inn Football Club’s Genius Mutungamiri’s strike was enough to hand the Gamecocks a 1-0 win in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup against GreenFuel at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.

Mutungamiri is delighted to have scored the all-important goal in the match after a rough patch in the first year of his stay at Chicken Inn.

“I have not been in my best form of late but I am delighted to have scored an important goal for my team, a goal which made sure that we move to the next round of the cup,” said Mutungamiri who was given his first Castle Lager Premiership bite by Bulawayo City FC last year.

Chicken Inn coach Prince Matore put his trust in the 23-year-old and it paid off as the former Bulawayo City midfielder put in a man-of-the-match performance.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub, the Entumbane-bred youngster also opened up on how he managed to remain calm despite the mounting pressure to perform.

“It was now a matter of how much I managed to keep myself together at such a tough time, I also appreciate my coach for the belief he has in me. I just made sure that I kept working hard knowing that whatever I went through was a phase and I only needed a goal or two to revive my confidence.”

Chicken Inn progressed to the next round of the knockout tournament and will hope to go all the way in this competition that has eluded them over the years.

In other matches, Harare giants Dynamos defeated Simba Bhora 1-0 at Barbourfields Stadium while defending league champions FC Platinum were guided by Walter Musona’s hattrick to a 4-0 victory against Yadah FC.

Ngezi Platinum ensured that Thulani “Thutsi” Sibanda’s chances of a consecutive win of the Chibuku Cup were scrapped off as they defeated his Triangle FC side 2-1 at Baobab Stadium.
