have been left with virtually no player in their books after a majority of the players’ contracts expired on 31 December last year while some of the players who had running contracts were released.
The latest revelations might raise fears among “Watosvorwa” faithful that the club might not affiliate with the Zifa Central Soccer League which will signal the collapse of the club despite assurances by the team owners that the team will fight for honours in the second tier league.
According to a source privy to the goings on at the Gweru-based outfit camp, 21 of the 30 players registered by the club had their contracts running out at the end of last year which made them free agents. The remaining nine who include striker Callisto Maheya, captain Brian Juru, the Useni brothers Roy and Alexander were cleared to play for teams of their choice.
Maheya has retraced his roots with Alexander Useni as they have joined airmen Chapungu while Roy Useni has been snapped up by army side Buffaloes.
Brian Juru, who was reportedly training with Shabanie Mine, joined goalkeeper Ashley “Campos” Rayners at Triangle while a number of players are still trying their luck at different clubs ahead of the coming season.
Maheya confirmed having joined Chapungu together with Useni.
“I am now a Chapungu player together with Marabha (Useni) after we were given our clearance letters by Hardbody,” said the former Hardbody captain.
Contacted for comment, the busmen’s spokesperson Wellington Ngulube, said his contract with the team expired and was not in a position to comment on matters to do with Hardbody while Takesure Sibanda, the team’s director, did not pick up his phone.
Meanwhile, Chapungu striker Brighton Mugoni has joined Harare based army side Black Rhinos ahead of the forthcoming season. Mugoni was the Zifa Central Soccer League’s topscorer in its inaugural season in 2010 after netting 18 goals which saw him scooping the region’s player of the year.
