There have been rumours doing rounds in the city that Hardbody’s director, Takesure Sibanda had offered to sell the team’s franchise for as low as $300 to anyone willing to take over the team.
Efforts to get comment from Sibanda were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable. Club spokesperson Wellington Ngulube dismissed the rumours as “bar talk” and said the club has already convened an executive meeting to map the way forward ahead of the 2013 season.
“That is not true wherever those rumours are emanating from, that is mere bar talk because Hardbody’s franchise is not for sale. If we had wanted to sell the franchise we would have not attended the (Zifa) Central Region annual general meeting in Gwanda but we did because we will take part in the league this coming season,” he said.
Sibanda soon after the team’s relegation was quoted as saying that his side will recruit talented youngsters for the forthcoming Zifa Central Soccer League season to fight for a promotional slot back to the Premiership.
After securing a promotional slot in the topflight league albeit under controversial circumstances, Hardbody found the going tough in the Castle Lager Premiership and managed only 24 points from 30 matches which saw them finishing second from bottom and became one of the four teams relegated.
Other teams which were relegated include Quelaton who anchored the 16-team league log, Blue Rangers and 2009 champions Gunners.
