Hardrock…………………………………(1)2
HARDROCK refused to let Scottland disappear over the horizon after beating Herentals 2-0 at Rufaro yesterday to cut the gap at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to SEVEN points.
Donald Mudadi, who is enjoying arguably the best season of his career, and reigning Soccer Star of the Year Washington Navaya struck either side of half-time as Kelvin Kaindu’s side moved to 42 points after 22 matches.
Scottland had stretched their advantage to 10 points after beating TelOne 2-0 last Friday, leaving Hardrock under pressure to respond.
They did, with goalkeeper Martin Mapisa playing a major role in preserving their lead as Herentals pushed strongly for an equaliser after the break.
It was also the response Kaindu wanted after Hardrock lost 2-1 to Dynamos following the completion of the remaining 14 minutes of their abandoned match at Baobab last Thursday.
“Yeah, I think it was a good game. Herentals have never been an easy opponent for anyone. For us to pick up six points from them shows how much we have improved,” said Kaindu.
“We have had tough encounters at Rufaro. We lost to CAPS United and Scottland in identical fashion, but today we managed to pick up three points at Rufaro.
“That gives us a bit of confidence as we try to narrow the gap with the team that is on top.”
