Mutare is set to resonate with the uplifting sounds of gospel music as Minister Michael Mahendere brings his highly anticipated Messiah Tour to Chancellor Primary School.
Renowned for his vocals and impactful songwriting, Mahendere has established himself as a key figure in Zimbabwe’s gospel music scene.
The Messiah Tour is not just a concert series; it represents a movement aimed at uniting people in worship and providing a platform for emerging artistes to shine.
In an interview, Mahendere expressed his excitement about the upcoming event in Mutare.
“Everywhere we go, we are carrying one message — that Jesus is the Messiah,” he said, highlighting the spiritual essence of the tour. “All is set for the show, and I am happy so far with the progress.”
Following a successful edition in Harare, anticipation is building as he prepares to uplift the hearts of the people in Mutare.
After this event, Mahendere will take his ministry to Bedford, UK, hosted by Grateful Experience, broadening the reach of his gospel message to an international audience.
The Mutare concert will feature a carefully curated lineup of performers, blending the experience of established artistes with the fresh talents of the next generation.
“Among those sharing the stage with Mahendere are Minister Ellard and Sharon Cherayi, a husband-and-wife duo celebrated for their heartfelt worship,” he mentioned.
“They will be joined by the Svondo Music Choir, Priscilla Tande, and Minister Prince, all of whom represent a new wave of Zimbabwean gospel artistry.”
Mahendere is passionate about nurturing young talent, reflecting on his own journey.
“When I look back at my own journey, I realise that someone gave me a chance,” he explained. “Now it is my responsibility to do the same for others. The future of gospel music lies in these young people, and they deserve to be seen and heard.”
His commitment to mentorship is evident in the lineup for the Mutare concert, where many emerging artistes will share the stage with one of Zimbabwe’s most respected gospel figures.
Over the years, Mahendere has built a reputation not only for his musical gifts but also for his vision of taking gospel music beyond borders.
Formerly a member of the celebrated Mahendere Brothers, he has successfully transitioned into a solo career, releasing albums that resonate deeply with audiences.
His works, particularly the “Getting Personal With God” series, have solidified his status as a leading figure in gospel music. Songs like “Salt of the Earth,” “Makanaka Jesu,” “Tangai Neni,” and “Ndinobuda Pakaoma” have become anthems in churches and homes throughout Zimbabwe and beyond.
According to Mahendere, the Messiah Tour is an extension of his mission. “When God gives you a gift, it is not for you to keep,” he stated. “It is for the nations. My dream is to see gospel music from Zimbabwe ministering on international stages, and that is why the UK tour in November is so important.”
His vision transcends personal success; it aims to elevate the entire genre and showcase the rich talent emerging from Zimbabwe.
Commenting on his collaborations, he noted that they have significantly influenced his career.
He has worked with various regional and international gospel artists, blending different musical styles to create a sound that resonates with diverse audiences.
This openness to collaboration enriches his ministry, enabling him to reach people from various backgrounds.
