If you logged onto Twitter or Instagram Thursday morning and wondered why there was an influx of beautiful women embracing their curves, we have 23-year-old plus-size model Simone Mariposa to thank for that. Mariposa served the ultimate clap back hashtag #wewearwhatwewant after seeing Twitter user @TheSoulAsylum’s detailed account of a run-in with body shamers.Deciding that enough was enough she sent out a tweet asking women to, “. . . post your favourite outfits with the hashtag #wewearwhatwewant!”

Women from all over have since joined in on the wave of body positivity.

Posting selfies of themselves wearing whatever they see fit, curvy ladies are taking back the power and celebrating their bodies as is.

“The fat woman’s experience is rarely addressed and discussed, because we are often stripped of our humanity . . . My body image suffered greatly from it,” Mariposa told Buzzfeed.

“I stopped wearing my legs and arms out, I stayed away from clothes that accentuated my belly fat, and I was extremely self-conscious (in) public. However, after a while, I stopped letting society dictate my wardrobe, and starting wearing things that I always dreamed of wearing that made me feel beautiful.”

Not only posting selfies of themselves, women are sharing their stories of insecurity, self-consciousness and overall shame when it comes to their bodies and vowing to no longer be held back. — essence.com
