The above words are certainly ringing true into the ears of Highlanders striker Brighton “MaNinja” Ncube who has revealed that he dedicated the hat-trick that he scored last Sunday when they played against Kwekwe United in a Premier Soccer League match to his late grandmother.
Ncube’s sensational hat-trick was the highlight of the game as Highlanders dismissed 10-man Kwekwe United in their first home match of the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. It was also MaNinja’s first hat-trick in Bosso colours.
Coincidentally, his three goal haul came on the same date his grandmother passed on a few years ago.
“I was really happy to score a hat-trick on that particular day. I dedicated it to my late grandmother. She passed on that particular date, a few years ago,” said a teary MaNinja who could not further open up.
The striker was speaking at the club’s press conference held on Thursday ahead of their Week Three away fixture against Greenfuel at Greenfuel Arena on Saturday.
Ncube joined Bosso last season from Chicken Inn and since last term the Bulawayo football giants head coach, Kelvin Kaindu, has continued to shower the towering striker with praise.
“Having a player score three goals is a positive for us. Even last year, MaNinja played an important role for us to produce a top goal scorer (Lynoth Chikuhwa). He has started positively and for him to score three goals yet he is not 100 percent fit, is a positive development. He started training last week,” said Kaindu.
With Chikuhwa, who scored 17 goals last season in Bosso colours, now in the books of free-spending Scottland FC, Ncube will be expected to carry the burden of scoring more goals for the black and white.
After two rounds of play, MaNinja leads the top goal scorers’ chart with three goals under his belt, one ahead of Washington Navaya of TelOne.
