Hatfield mother and son jailed for raping 15-year-old girl they lured with job offer

The Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court has convicted a 49-year-old woman and her 29-year-old son in connection with the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl whom the two had lured from Chipinge under the guise of offering her a job.

On June 10, 2025, at a house along Scott Road in Hatfield, the woman asked her son to show the victim where she was supposed to sleep, knowing that she had the intention to assist her son rape the victim.

The son got intimate with the girl without her consent.

The court also established that the woman knowingly concealed the offence after the complainant reported the abuse to her.

Both offenders were initially charged with trafficking in persons after transporting the complainant from Chipinge to Harare under the guise of employing her as a maid.

However, they were acquitted on this charge due to insufficient evidence.

The woman was sentenced to five years in prison while her son will spend 15 years in jail.

The National Prosecuting Authority said, “The victim has since been placed in a safe location under protective services.

“Communities are urged to be vigilant against child abuse and illegal child labour. Every child has the right to protection and a safe environment. Offenders will face the full wrath of the law.”
