JUST a few weeks after his so-called “premature” way of parting ways with Caps United to join rivals Chicken Inn, Fungai “Tosato” Kwashi says he does not have a stone to grind with Makepekepe boss, Farai Jere.
Jere is a Caps United owner who doubles up as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson.
“I grew up at Caps United playing as a junior player. I also went overseas courtesy of the club. I did well in foreign countries before I retraced to Caps United. That’s my club but I never ditched them. It’s hats off to Farai Jere and Lloyd Chitembwe for guiding me. I will never regret meeting them as I seek to grow as a coach,” said Kwashi.
Chitembwe, a former Caps United midfield enforcer, has been at the helm of the Makepekepe technical team for impacting football knowledge to current players and yesteryear greats that include Kwashi
Kwashi (44) debuted for the Green Machine senior team at the age of 17.
He added: “The two guys (Jere and Chitembwe) never hated me. With circumstances permitting, I was going to stay put at Caps United.”
He now deputises veteran gaffer Joey Antipas at Gamecocks.
Kwashi is a holder of a (Zifa) Level one and two Coaching Diplomas, Fifa Elite Fitness Course, and Caf A, B and C licences.
Interestingly, Caps United are set to meet Chicken Inn in their league opener scheduled for Harare next weekend.
“One way or the other we were going to meet them in this league race. It was either going to be the first game, a mid-week fixture, or an end-of-season game. So far for us, as Chicken Inn, it’s game on,” said Kwashi.
He joined a Gamecocks technical department that also has Guide Goddard as second assistant coach.
The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) 2024 epic campaign, whose fixtures were released late last week, is set to start on a happy note with traditional giants Highlanders and Dynamos fighting it out in the season’s opener at Barbourfields Stadium. -@FungaiMuderere.
