HBA appoint new competitions commissioner

EXPERIENCED administrator, Gideon Chikopa, is the new Harare Basketball Association competitions commissioner. Chikopa will preside over the HBA in the 2018/19 season after as his appointment on July 6. A statement by the HBA president, Sani Mbofana, confirmed Chikopa’s appointment.

“This appointment is in accordance to Article 29:11 of the HBA Constitution.
“Chikopa is expected to get the ball rolling and get the provisional 2018/19 schedule in place as well as prepare for the preparation for unified rules of competitions,” said Mbofana.

“We are aware this position (Commission, Consultations/Searches) has been vacant for long and please bear with us for now.”
Chikopa told The Herald yesterday he felt honoured and excited with the appointment and will do his best.

“Being a former player and national team player and with administrative work experience in senior management positions, I feel I have all the required skills to positively make an impact on our beloved sport and the timing is right.”
Chikopa said they are awaiting for their annual meeting to discuss when the league will get underway.
