THE Harare Basketball Association is gearing up for the 2013 to 2014 season with the men’s A league play-offs set to take place today at Richwood Park. The play-offs will feature three clubs — Airforce Falcons, Platinum Ballers and UZ Stars. They are going to compete for two slots to qualify into the main league.
The matches will be played in a round-robin format and the top two teams will join the other 10 clubs already in the league.
The provincial association revealed that there is going to be one combined league made up of 12 teams unlike last year when there were two conferences running.
The first match at Richwood will see Airforce Falcons taking on Platinum Ballers before UZ Stars battle it out against Airforce Falcons.
UZ Stars will then clash with Platinum Ballers in the last match of the day.
Munda said for the women’s league there will not be major changes but they are going to form a B league that will run separately from the A league to accommodate junior players.
“We are going to have coaching clinic for the senior coaches in the league and referees will have their annual general meeting, there is going to be a new referees committee.
“Besides elections the referees will also discuss the rules of the game and how to handle themselves as officials.
The 2013 to 2014 season is scheduled to get underway on September 28.
