LUKE 1:31-33,37
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. [32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: [33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. [37] For with God nothing shall be impossible.
The coming of Jesus was promised from the Old Testament. He was to come from the lineage of Judah, although He was the Son of God.
The promise was made that the sceptre of rulership was going to come from the house of Judah.
Jesus, though His foster father, Joseph, was of the earthly household of Judah. He was a son of David of the house of Judah, to whom a prophecy through Nathan the prophet had said, David would always have a son to rule on his throne.
The kingdom of David would have no end.
The literal natural kingdom of David ended. But Jesus, of the house of David, was promised to have a kingdom without end.
To His kingdom, there shall be no end. He was the fulfilment of prophecy of the unending sacrifice kingdom. That is why when Jesus was here, He was referred to as son of David. His kingdom has got no end. He shall sit on the throne of David and rule in the millennium. He is funding nations right now, like David. He killed Goliath, death that had troubled mankind since Adam.
He holds a sceptre in His hand. No wonder Gabriel told Mary that he would be great. There will be no end to His kingdom.
He shall be great. His birth changed the calendar. We are now in the year
Of our Lord 2025. Whenever you write a date, you are acknowledging Him. You may not like it, you may like it, but the calendar changed.
His birth brought new things. He was feared at birth. Herod and Jerusalem were shaken when they heard that a King had been born.
The fear of Herod made him to kill young innocent children. This was all because Jesus who was to be great had been born.
He was born a king while another king was on the throne. Herod was king at the time but Jesus was born. There are things that regard themselves as
Kings in your life. But Jesus does not wait to be born after they are no more. He gets born anyhow. When Jesus is born, something gets shaken. When you become a Christian, certain things are disturbed. The kingdom of Satan is shaken.
He shall be great. Today He fills the whole earth. He is that stone that was cut without hands. It struck the feet of the image of Nebuchadnezzar and made it into dust and chaff. The stone grew into a big mountain. When Jesus comes, the tempter is broken and, in his stead, the Rock stands.
The world knows Him.
He shall be great in your life. He will be great over worry, over anxiety, over fear
And every other thing that takes your comfort.
When He was here, he healed, He comforted, He raised the dead, multiplied fish and bread, changed water into wine.
He has not changed. He is the same as He was then He is still great. He can change death into life, sickness into health. He knows no defeat. In Him there is no failure.
How does Jesus grow and become great in us? We receive Him in the manger of our hearts. He is born and we grow Him in us by abiding in His Word of grace. As we nurture Him in us, He grows great. He takes over our lives. He takes charge and control. Paul says in Galatians 4:19:
My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
He was travailing as a woman in birth for Christ to be formed in us. Like a pregnant woman grows a tummy as the baby in her grows, so should we grow outwardly when something inwardly is growing. With the growing Christ us is our growing outward show of the inward work. Ephesians 4:13 says the same thing: “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”
When we hear and keep the Word, we grow into one Body of Christ and together we become one perfect being in the measure and stature of Christ.
He shall be great in us.
