Headmaster must account for his action

Child abuse cases are on the rise and if no decisive and drastic action is taken to stop this trend then our children will never forgive us for failing to protect them from society’s malcontents. The most vulnerable has been the girl child who for reasons best known to degenerate males has been viewed as a sex object instead of a human being created in the image of the great God who deserves respect and support just like everyone else.

In a country like ours where females make the larger percentage of our population it still boggles one’s mind to hear that some men are still preying on innocent girls for sex and thereby exposing them to permanent moral, physical and emotional damage.

Some perpetrators of this crime against the girl child have given various reasons to justify their evil actions ranging from being instructed by a sangoma as a healing remedy especially in Aids cases or as a money-making ritual in the case of business people.

However whatever their reasons may be society will never accept and tolerate such inhumane behaviour and we are grateful for the work being done by our police and the courts in ensuring that such people are made to pay for their sins though the damage they would have caused is irreversable and that’s the most painful part.

While Hartzell High School is an old school which is remembered for churning out academic and professional greats like politician Professor Authur Mutambara and former Zimpapers CEO Mr Justin Mutasa, it has recently been making headlines in the press for all the wrong reasons but not necessarily because the school has suddenly become bad.

Those that are supposed to give guidance and desperately needed leadership have dragged the name of this otherwise decent school into disrepute. As events unfold ,thanks to the public and the press for letting the cat out of the bag ,it has turned out that the headmaster of the school is actually the chief suspect in a child abuse case which has send shock waves across the whole country and the world beyond.

What makes this whole case nauseating is the fact that this said headmaster, a Shorwi Kawadza ,after abusing this orphan with the facilitation of the orphanage staffer, Cecilia Thobani, went one further in an attempt to obstruct the course of justice by fabricating a case against another school staffer who seems to now be gaining public sympathy. This headmaster actually fed the press with wrong information in his quest to run away from justice but as fate would have it the man has fallen in the pit he dug for someone else.

After all has been said and done the question that remains or begs for an answer is why on earth would two adults entrusted with the welfare of children stoop so low as to connive to abuse and wreck the life of a disadvantaged child who already has experienced the pain of having no parents or relatives to look after her. She is an orphan and in a country like ours where poverty has reached alarming levels we all know the suffering that these unfortunate kids are going through. We should not forget that this incident is happening at a church run institution where morality is expected to be high and at the same time the culprit is a whole headmaster who is 57 years old .Worse still we have an old woman who is supposed to look after this orphan and others ,giving them motherly love and care knowing that they miss this dearly but instead she decides to make money out of her by hiring her out for sexual purposes.
