ARMED robbers struck at Manama secondary school in Kezi for the second time in four months, stealing more than $2 500 in school fees, the headmaster, Mr Isaac Mutlokwa, said yesterday.
The incident occurred last Thursday at about 10pm. The robbers threatened to shoot Mr Mutlokwa and ordered him to open the school safe.
After the robbers had taken the money, they tied the headmaster’s hands behind his back and marched him outside.
One of them said he was going to shoot him and “I heard the gun being cocked,” Mr Mutlokwa said.
Mr Mutlokwa said another robber pulled his friend away and they talked for a while before throwing the office keys back, ordering him to move and not look back.
He said that before leaving, they told him to wait for 36 hours before contacting the police.
LESSONS FOR TODAY
Keeping large sums of money in a house, school or business is a risky thing because it attracts thieves.
Money should be kept in banks, because they are designed to handle cash and are insured in the event of a robbery.
When accosted by robbers, especially those that will be armed, it is important to comply with their demands because money, property and other valuables can be replaced, but life cannot be replaced once it has been taken.
