Health professionals and affiliated organisations have lauded President Mnangagwa for his efforts to renovate Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Sally Mugabe Hospital.
Renovations are progressing well at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals following President Mnangagwa’s visit to health facilities last month.
The President has consistently said that upgrading the health sector is a top priority for the Second Republic.
Health professionals on Tuesday conducted a tour of the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where they observed the ongoing renovations at Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital.
Their visit followed President Mnangagwa’s unannounced inspection of the hospitals, allowing for direct interaction and assessment of the institutions’ operations.
Health Ambassadors for Economic Development chairperson, Ms Cynthia Chisiri, expressed gratitude for the President’s commitment to transforming these hospitals into world-class facilities.
“We are pleased to see such developments taking place at such short notice. The President, as a listening leader, recognised our concerns and promised to address them. There has been a significant improvement in drug supplies across hospitals,” she remarked.
“We toured all the pharmacies at Parirenyatwa Group Hospitals and I can confirm this progress.”
Ms Chisiri specifically praised the renovations at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, highlighting the positive changes underway in the health sector.
She also announced that a revolving fund for health professionals will soon be launched.
An affiliate organisation BoysDzamdara, also toured the health institution.
BoysDzamdara committee member Mr Alexander Muzanenhamo, who was part of the group of health professionals, weighed in, saying they are happy to see the renovations being carried out at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
“We are here to complement the good works which are being carried out,” said Mr Muzanenhamo.
Renovations are ongoing at Adlam House, which accommodates student nurses. There was a lot of damage to the infrastructure, from the roof, ceiling, floors to the water and sewer reticulation systems.
In a recent development, President Mnangagwa witnessed the signing of agreements in Belarus, which included a deal to upgrade Zimbabwe’s major hospitals nationwide.
Health and Child Care Minister Douglas Mombeshora said after the renovations, the hospital will become a state-of-the-art facility.
“The contractor started with the first block and we hope that by the beginning of September, that block will be done.
“We hope to come up with a new look hospital – modern and comparable with any other hospital.”
