Health professionals under the banner of Young Health Professionals for Economic Development banner have hailed the Second Republic for the progress made in improving health service delivery.
The professionals are providing free maternal health services as a way of complementing the Government’s efforts in ending maternal mortality. To improve health delivery, the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa is championing universal health coverage to ensure quality service for all.
Maternal health is central to the attainment of set targets, which are in line with Vision 2023 of an upper middle income society.
In an interview, Young Health Professionals for Economic Development chairperson, Dr Gamuchirai Muchesa, said they have started offering free maternal services in Mt Darwin.
Dr Muchesa invited other partners to support the initiative. “We believe that every mother and child deserves access to quality healthcare services during pregnancy, childbirth, and post birth period,” said Dr Muchesa.
“Through the use of maternal waiting homes and the support of community health care workers, village heads, and local communities, we aim to create a safe environment for mothers and new-borns.
“The goal of the safe motherhood initiative is to provide comprehensive care and support to pregnant women and their families, ensuring a smooth and healthy journey from conception to postpartum.”
Dr Muchesa said by focusing on early detection, prevention, and timely intervention, they aim to reduce maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality rates in Mt Darwin.
She said their services are antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, postnatal care, family planning and health education.
President Mnangagwa has thrust local health services on a trajectory to matching best international practices, said Dr Muchesa.
It is against this background that the Young Health Professionals for Economic Development feel compelled to lend a hand in line with the President’s mantra, “Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa nekunamatigwa nevene vayo/ Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo”.
“We are a team of health professionals that include doctors, nurses, and nurse aids, among others, and we are convinced by the trajectory taken by Government in improving the country’s health system,” said Dr Muchesa.
“We are bringing in expertise as professionals, and if there are other well-meaning partners eager to partner us, they can come on board and we spread the initiative to other parts of the country.”
The Second Republic has been constructing clinics across the country while also providing medical drugs to ensure people access medical services close to where they live, in line with the National Development Strategy 1.
