Twenty health facilities will benefit from protective clothing and equipment donated by the Zimbabwe Infection Prevention and Control Programme on Wednesday. Seven of the facilities represented at the official handover ceremony in Harare received surgical masks, aprons and gloves among other items. At the handover, Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa said: “Government is fully committed, despite the economic challenges, to ensuring that infection prevention and control practice is strengthened in all health facilities in the country.
“By procuring and distributing such equipment, Government and ZIPCOP aim to strengthen personal protection for the overall benefit of health workers and patients.”
ZIPCOP handed over 5 000 surgical masks with visors, 600 heavy-duty aprons, 20 000 light aprons, 600 sharps containers, 600 industrial latex duty gloves and 2 400 latex gloves.
Professor Emmanuel Gomo of ZIPCOP said they would continue distributing personal protective equipment for health facilities for the next five years at least.
This is the third handover of such materials by ZIPCOP since 2011, benefiting 40 health facilities countrywide.
