COMPETITION in the Heart Women’s Soccer League is heating up, with Chapungu closing the gap on log leaders Black Rhinos, who were inactive during the weekend’s Week 16 matches.

As the league enters the second half of the season, the competition is expected to intensify, with teams vying for top honours and also fighting off relegation.

The league, formerly known as the Women’s Premier Soccer League, has secured a new title sponsor and will now be known as the Heart Women’s Soccer League.

The action-packed weekend was supposed to have kicked off with a clash between log leaders Black Rhinos and Black Mambas at the Heart Stadium but the match was called off for reasons yet to be established.

Second-placed Chapungu have maintained their spot and seemingly assumed an easier task against struggling ZRP Harare at Manyame where they won 3-0.

Highlanders Royals hosted Maningi Youth Academy in a one-all game which was played at Highlanders Sports Club.

MSU Queens and Hope Academy, both facing challenges this season, were hoping for victories when they faced off, the match ended in a goalless draw.

Conduit Soccer Academy who were looking to maintain their momentum lost against Correctional Queens 2-0.

Herentals were inactive due to their participation in the 2024 Caf Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers.
