Heartbreak for Kangwa, Prince

IT was heartbreak in the end for Tanzania-based Zimbabwean footballers Bruce Kangwa and striker Prince Dube as their Azam FC outfit lost 1-0 to Young Africans in yesterday’s Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC), FA Cup final.

A first half header by Zambian Kennedy Musonda was enough to condemn Azam to a runners-up spot. The victory for Young Africans ensured they sealed a cup and league double this season as they had already sealed the championship.

The FA Cup final is the second most prestigious competition in Tanzanian football.

The winner of the FA Cup will qualify for the Caf Confederation Cup next season.

Leading to the final, 26-year-old Dube, scored the winning goal when they knocked out giants Simba Sporting Club 2-1 in the semi-finals and started the game on the bench with Kangwa getting a place in the starting line up.

Dube, who scored a hattrick in Azam’s last league match played on Friday as they clobbered relegated Polisi Tanzania 8-0 to take his season’s tally to 12 goals, will be hoping to carry his form at the end of the season into the next campaign.

Dube, a proven goal scorer has had his career derailed by injuries.

He left Bosso in 2017 for SuperSport United in the Premier Soccer League of South Africa but he did not manage to break into the first team.

He was loaned to Black Leopards for a season but still battled for regular game time.
Dube became Zimbabwe’s 2019 Soccer Star of the Year second runner-up after he regained form at the 2006 league champions.

The forward made his national team debut on March 26, 2017, when Zimbabwe played to a 0-0 draw against neighbours Zambia.

Since then, he has played in nine matches and has scored six goals for the national team.
